Watch Out For Premature Carpet Wear If You Live On The Coast
October 23rd, 2009 by admin

I love living here on the South Coast, regular trips to the beach are a must, particularly if you have dogs or children. One of the few downsides is that without realizing, you are slowly bringing large quantities of sand home with you.

If you have carpets or rugs in your home, and they have not been professionally cleaned for more than a year, sand deposits will be eroding the carpet fibers each and every day. Our Labrador dog loves swimming in the sea and rolling in the Brighton sand, even after a good shake, she will be bringing sand home with her. Dogs like to sit on furniture and stretch out on our carpets and rugs, leaving sand on each visit.

You can do a lot to help reduce this problem, firstly make sure your vacuum cleaner is up to the job, the purchase of an upright machine with good beating properties will remove much more sand than a basic tub vacuum cleaner.

With regards to rugs, take your rug outside every two weeks and give it a good beating! Sand and dust removal this way is better than just a vacuum, every year call a professional carpet cleaner in from Eastbourne or Brighton that uses professional carpet and rug extraction methods, this will ensure your rug or carpets will last for many years to come. Also try to avoid domestic wonder products on sale at your supermarkets, many of which will contain sticky detergents and/or optical brightening agents (bleach) which can potentially cause long term damage.

There are many carpet cleaners in Brighton and Hove that have the equipment needed to remove soil and sand, extending carpet life.
